Today the prompt for the Thankfulness and Gratitude Journey Challenge is “Ability or Skill” – What is an Ability or Skill that you are thankful for? It is sometimes hard for people to identify and talk about themselves or skills they have but I am asking you to do that today….so what is it? What’s one of your hidden, or not so hidden talents that you are thankful you have and why are you thankful for it?
One of the skills I am thankful for is my ability to create and to teach Zentangle®.
Zentangle® as an art form and method was created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. It is an easy to learn method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns. This fascinating art form is fun, relaxing, and provides artistic satisfaction and an increased sense of well being. I started tangling at the end of Sept. 2010 and was hooked from my 1st class!
It was a way that I coped with the depression and grief I was experiencing from the death of my first son. I often say Zentangle gave me my life back and my husband says it gave him his wife back! I later became a Certified Zentangle Teacher and have been teaching Zentangle and helping others learn about this wonderful artform ever since.
I feel very blessed and thankful that God brought Zentangle into my life when he did or I might have not have found myself again. It still brings such joy into my life when I do it and when I teach others how to do it, their ‘Aha! moments when they realize they can make beautiful art’ just fills me with so much happiness!
So please share in the comments what skill or ability you are thankful for and why. I will do some Zentangle art as part of the Lettering art piece I give away for those who share.
